PODS - Safety Issue?

Image
Is this a safety issue? Should pedestrians, including children on bicycles, have to walk or ride toward or into the street to avoid a POD? The first one, at a different house in Barony Place II a couple of weeks ago, was reported to the HOA, and there was no response. This one was reported on June 25, and there has been no response from the HOA. It seems to me that the Board or the Safety Committee or the office could call the PODS company and tell them to place these containers up close to the garage door, so that the least amount of sidewalk, if any, is blocked. This one is 6-8 feet from the garage door. If you agree it's a safety issue, call the office (803.865.0609) or email the board (email addresses can be found on the Summit HOA website).

Opening Day for The Human Bean is June 23. Err, WAS June 23

The Human Bean opened June 23. The Bean bought a full-page ad in the Summit Scoop (see the June issue, page 7) and welcomed Summit residents with a $2 discount (if using its app) PLUS an additional $1 off if you mention the Scoop on opening day (June 23). That was pretty hard to do, when the Scoop hit your newspaper box late on the 23rd. For months the Board members have flapped their lips about delivery of the Scoop late in the month. Wednesday was June 23rd. The June edition of the Scoop was delivered on June 23rd. Why was it delivered late in this month - Again? One of the huge problems is that no homeowner or board member oversees the Scoop. Instead, an office employee of CAMS controls the Scoop. How do I know this? Look at the Committee listings on the HOA website. Way at the bottom.  Delivering the Scoop early in the month is not difficult. If the board actually made a decision and ordered the Scoop to be dellivered on the first or second day of the month, then all the production

"Residents" no longer welcome at board meetings

Residents who are not homeowners are no longer welcome at meetings of the HOA board of directors. I guess it was easier and more politically-correct to change the wording in the Scoop, which previously read, "Board meetings are open to ALL [ sic ] Summit residents." For months the board has refused to allow me to attend monthly meetings. I kept asking pesky questions like, "When will you being complying with the By-Laws in regard to required annual meetings of each of the 28 Neighborhoods to elect a Neighborhood Committee and Voting Member?" They could have changed the wording to "Board meetings are open to ALL Summit residents except Gus Philpott." Instead, the wording in the June Scoop now reads, "Board meetings are open to ALL Summit homeowners." Of course, that won't prevent me from continuing to ask when the Board will begin complying with the By-Laws. If you think the Board should comply with the By-Laws (and not just threaten homeowner

Could HOA ban weapons?

WIS-TV reports on the homeowners' association of Del Webb at Cane Bay, in the low country at Summerville. See the article dated June 4, 2021 right here . That HOA's attorney says that the HOA can regular firearms on the property it owns. I wonder how much of the HOA's money will be spent to find out if he is right. The HOA should ask him, "How certain are you, and will you pay our legal bills if you are wrong?" The question has come up because of the Open Carry with Training law that goes into effect in South Carolina on August 16, 2021.  While the HOA owns the common property, including pool, office, tennis courts, etc., and may, in the case of Cane Bay, own the roads, the situation in The Summit is that the HOA most likely does not have any authority over the roads. The roads are owned and maintained by Richland County. The HOA doesn't agree with this, but it won't provide any evidence or proof of its position. The HOA claims to be able to enforce the CC

July BOD meeting date changed

If you rely on the May Scoop for the correct date of the July Board of Directors meeting, you'll be a week early. You won't be the only one trying to show up, but there will not be a meeting on July 6, 2021. In spite of the date in the May edition of The Summit Scoop. The correct date of the July meeting will be July 13. The meeting date was changed for the convenience of the Board President, Justin Martin. That must be vacation week for him. The meeting-date change was NOT announced during the June meeting. I wonder when and how the HOA planned to announce the date change. When I heard about it the next day, I inquired. Apparently, the Board members know about it, but at least one committee chairman didn't know about it. The BOD meeting should be held as scheduled on July 6. The meeting could surely be run competently by the Board's Vice-President, Auby Dellinger. And since meetings are held via Zoom, Justin could even just call in from wherever and run the meeting hi
