April Board Meeting
The next Board of Directors meeting will be Tuesday, April 1, 2025, 6:30PM at Brookland Baptist Church Northeast, 1203 Summit Parkway.
(The reason that Northeast is underlined is that every month The Summit Scoop announces the meeting as being at Brookland Baptist Church. It's not. That Church is at 1066 Sunset Blvd. in West Columbia. More than a year ago I suggested correcting the church name in The Scoop.)
What changes can be expected (suspected?)?
In the March 2025 Summit Scoop, in the President's Message, Danny Trapp wrote, "As a reminder, Homeowners' concerns should be sent to the office to my attention for a response. I am hoping this will help minimize meeting times."
By that statement, some suspect that Danny intends to eliminate public comment from board meetings. His message was not a "reminder"; it was a new deal. Has anyone tried that? Did you get a personal response or a canned reply?
What that will also do is eliminate complaints from homeowners and residents and isolate those who are complaining (ex., about the street lights on Summit Parkway that are out and why the waterfalls are still not working).
If you want the public comment period to remain, you are going to have to speak up - perhaps loudly. Politely, of course.
If you can't hear at meetings, ask that all speakers (board members, committee chairs, audience members) use the microphone. It's right there on the table in front of Danny.
As President, Danny could run the meeting in an orderly fashion. Instead, he tends to sit there and let disorder take over.
Danny has, in the past, announced that speakers will have two minutes. Then he lets them ramble on and on, allows subjects that have been previously addressed repeatedly (speeders), and allows board members to respond without limits, etc. It's no wonder that the public comment period takes up a lot of time.
And worse, the Board allows it to happen. There are six other board members, who could ask for order. Do they? No way!
Every month the tenuous financial condition of the HOA should be addressed. The Variances on the financial statement should be pointed out and discussed. The Board should have approved a dues increase in November. They didn't even vote on it. Apparently, the decision not to increase the dues was made in one of those infamous, secret, private, closed, pre-board meetings, out-of-sight of the Members and the public.
Will any Member ask how much is being spent on the lawsuit against Gus Philpott (me)? Or why Danny didn't show up at the February 11th and March 20th court hearings, where Gus, representing himself pro se, could have cross-examined him on his Affidavit?
Will anyone ask why the lawsuit is being continued, after the HOA lost the major restrictions it sought in a TRO?
Will anyone read Art. XIII, Section 10 Litigation is the CC&Rs and ask the Board why it commenced a prohibited judicial proceeding (lawsuit) against Gus Philpott without the approval of the Voting Members?
And don't forget the trampoline issue.
