Protest - NOT peaceful
The protest at 199 Barony Place Drive was anything but peaceful on Wednesday, April 14. There were about 150 angry black men and women who showed up with signs and t-shirts.
Several pointed out that the t-shirts read BLACK VOTERS MATTER, not Black Lives Matter. And how proud of that they were. But I didn't see any voting lines or polling places. Or voter registration desks.
They were there to display their feelings about an incident involving a white man and a young black man (not a juvenile, according to Sheriff Lott) that has received widespread attention in the media - even national attention. No need to re-hash it here.
In response to my email to the HOA Board, one board member replied, in part, "but your email will only add fuel to the fire, as it gives a perception that you condone Mr. Pentlands behaviors." I responded to him that that is an insult and, if he wants to know my position of Pentland's behaviors, he can ask me.
Oh, and I also learned that the term "black" is offensive now. I have one word for that. Or is it two words?
The crowd of protesters there on Wednesday afternoon was angry. I doubt most of them even know why. The ones screaming at me didn't understand how the criminal justice system works. And they don't want to understand it. One black man was screaming threats that were the equivalent of "get your guns, boys, and take back your rights." In other words, get out there and kill whites.
Where were the cops to hear him and identify him?
That mob didn't want justice. They wanted their justice. If they had their way, Pentland would have gotten a fair trial on Wednesday morning and been strung up at 3:00PM. And that would not even have satisfied them.
Columbia is not going to turn into Portland, Seattle, Minneapolis, Racine, Chicago, Ferguson!
