Selection of new Director and Treasurer
Did the Board of Directors call a special (or irregular pre-board) meeting last week to discuss appointing a seventh board member, to replace the late George Reynolds?
Last week I submitted a request to the HOA office for the Zoom link to any special or pre-board meeting, and the office did not have the courtesy of replying.
Did the office ignore me at the direction of the President of the HOA, Justin Martin? He (and George) previously had informed me that I was no longer welcome at board meetings, despite a notice in The Summit Scoop every month that "Board meetings are open to ALL [sic] Summit residents."
I sent a second request late Friday afternoon, as I had not been informed of any board meeting held last week.
Be sure to attend the April 13, 2021 re-scheduled April Board of Directors meeting. Request the Zoom link by emailing the HOA manager, Angela Adelman, at AAdleman@camsmgt.com Send your request by early Tuesday morning, so that she will have time to reply.
As a homeowner you can ask whether a pre-board meeting was held to discuss the now-vacant position of Director and the election of a Treasurer. If a meeting was held, ask why that meeting was not announced and whether it was held as a private, secret meeting.
George had also been chairman of the Finance Committee, so a new chairman will also need to be appointed.
The Board of Directors represents 2,500 property owners in The Summit. Homeowners do NOT elect the board. Each of 28 "Neighborhoods" has a Neighborhood Representative/Voting Member. Those few Voting Members elect the board.
Each Neighborhood is supposed to have a Neighborhood Meeting every year to elect a Neighborhood Committee of three, from which the Voting Member and two Alternates are chosen (according to a provision in the By-Laws). George Reynolds was also in charge of the Voting Members.
The By-Laws have not been complied with for several years; e.g., no Neighborhood Meeting was held in Barony Place (Barony Place I and Barony Place II) in 2018, 2019 or 2020. Some might say that Barony Place does not have a legitimate Voting Member, meaning that 78 homeowners are not legally represented before the Board.
Perhaps a new member of the Board will insist on compliance. Or it may take a Circuit Court Judge to order the Board to comply with the By-Laws.
