ICYMI - Gus Philpott is a bad man

Occasionally, HOA Treasurer Vernell Butler lets fly with a choice email.

Here's one he sent to me on Friday, June 10, 2022.

"Gus you have continued to be a poor example of what a resident means. To be clear you are not  a resident of this community, rather a self motivated bad person.Everyone can see you for what you are, even the richland county school board that is why you continue to be unwelcome everywhere you go. You are not interested in anyone but yourself.

"Go away"

First of all, Vernell seems to be struggling with the English language. Most people know what a resident is.

Resident: "a person who resides in a place" Source: Dictionary.com

The only problem with that definition in a popular online dictionary is that many of us learned that you don't use the word you are defining in the definition itself.

If I cared about Vernell's opinion of me or anything else, I guess I'd be crushed. But I don't.

Vernell obviously doesn't know what happened on January 25, 2022 at the Richland 2 School Board meeting. Even if he knew, would he care? Or would he still choose to believe the media release by Richland 2 or the words of Board Chair Holmes or Board Vice Chair Manning or Pamela Davis, wife of Supt. Davis on WIS-TV on January 28?

Here is important information about Vernell:

He told the HOA board that The Summit HOA has 2,800 homes. (Angela told me 2,480 and, as recently as June 10, 2022, an office employee told me 2,600. Does anyone know the correct number? (Based on annual dues being collected, it's close to 2,480.)

Vernell also told the Board that the 2022 Budget only increased $3,500. If you looked at the Budget, you'd know that was wrong. $1,320,050 - $1,317,550 = $2,500. Is basic subtraction hard for Vernell?

And he didn't tell the Board about the amount going into Reserves for Replacement Projects that was cut from $146,155 to $91,610 = $54,545. That is how the Buget was "balanced". Smoke & mirrors.

Remember when "Let George Do It" was a popular phrase in the last century? ["Let George do it" is an English idiom of the 20th century, recommending that some (unspecified) person rather than oneself should perform a given task. Source: Wikipedia

Former HOA Treasurer George Reynolds died in April 2021. He truly did it "his way". (That's why the Budget shows $230,570 for Salaries, but the HOA doesn't have any employees.)

Now it's up to the Homeowners to keep the board honest. And, as soon as they step up and start doing that, I'll be glad to find another project.
