Safety Committee to feature a Commercial Provider

Here's the message just sent out by the HOA for tomorrow's meeting.

Good morning, 

 

Safety Meeting June 15, 2023, 6:20 pm, at the office. Open to all home owners  

 

Guest speaker Vivit Home Security will provide information on in home security systems.

 

The Summit HOA and or the Safety Committee does not endorse any company. It is the individual’s choice.

Aside from the typos and grammatical errors, why is the Safety Committee sponsoring a Seller of security services at its monthly meeting? Is that a wise idea?


Not much harm will be done, because so few people attend the meetings. But, if anything, the Committee should not feature just one Seller. To be fair, should it have at least three Sellers there to explain, generally, how home security systems work? Or perhaps a knowledgeable homeowner (with nothing to sell)? Or weblinks to information on the internet?


Why do it at all? The Safety Committee "Is responsible for identifying unsafe conditions that exist in the amenity areas and reporting these findings to the Association Board of Directors along with recommendations for rectifying the problems." That is its Mission, as stated on the HOA website.


If that is the Mission of the Safety Commission (and it is), why is the Safety Committee discussing home security systems at all?


Now, to the typos and grammatical errors:


The email says 6:20PM. The Calendar on the HOA's .website says the meeting starts at 6:30PM. The calendar in the June Scoop says 6:30PM.


"home owners" is one word: homeowners.


The guest speaker isn't a business; it's a person.


It's not Vivit; it's Vivint.


It's not "in home"; it's in-home.


It's not "and or"; it's and/or


Dennis has a last name; it's Rybicki.


Why is the HOA's name shown as "Summit Community Association, Inc. (The)", instead of The Summit Community Association, Inc.?


Why are CAMS' North Carolina phone numbers shown, instead of 803/865-0609?

Barony Place Neighborhood (Barony Place I and Barony Place II attempted to hold a Neighborhood Meeting this afternoon. Of the 78 homes, seventeen (17) homes were represented, and that was not sufficient to meet the quorum requirement of 26. Open Letter to Barony Place "Voting Member"

An open letter to the "Voting Member" of Barony Place Neighborhood. Good morning, Billie, If you and/or an Alternate attended last night's board of directors meeting, will you please send out a recap of the meeting to Ann Stirlen and me (and to all the homeowners and residents in Barony Place)? About a dozen homeowners from throughout The Summit showed up for the board meeting  at the church  last night, only to learn from one person that it had been switched to Zoom, which allowed the board to meet in secret. Many of them had not received the email from the office that the board was (illegitimately) closing the meeting to homeowners. There are only about 1,800 (73%) email addresses of the 2,480 Members in the website database. I attempted to join the meeting on Zoom, as I am Attorney-in-Fact for Ann Stirlen, but I was not admitted to the meeting. Special Assessment Possible?

How would you feel about a $3,000 Special Assessment levied by the HOA against you and every other HOA Member (homeowner)? Article X, Section 4 in the CC&Rs allows this. Are you aware of that? Should the Board do everything possible to eliminate the possibility of such a Special Assessment? What is the Board doing that might just lead directly to such an Assessment? The HOA, by actions of the President (Justin Martin), the Treasurer (Vernell Butler, and the Safety Committee Chair (Dennis Rybicki) entered into a contact with the Richland County Sheriff's Department, effective February 1, 2023. They arranged for special patrols in the Summit at a cost of $48.00/hour. In the Special Duty Agreement is a Liability clause.
