HOA's Nominating Committee

At this time of year the HOA's Nominating Committee takes on importance. What is it and what does it do?

From the Summit HOA's website on 10/1/2024:

Nominating
Mission: Provides quality candidates to hold office on the Board. Candidates will be of the highest caliber, selected for interpersonal skills, dedication to the betterment of our Association and community, and free of any personal agenda
Open, Chair.  Michael Bryant, James Glenn, Jeff Lummel, and Kristie O'Brian.

You'll notice that the position of Chair is shown as Open. Is it?

At the September 10 monthly board meeting, President Danny Trapp announced that he had appointed Director Patricia Pollin as Chair of the Nominating Committee. She is the newest member of the board, having been appointed to succeed Greg Thomas, who resigned shortly after being elected in November 2023. Sheis a nice person, but should an experienced Board member have been appointed? With good coaching and support, there is no reason why she cannot fulfill the duties of Chair.

A question is why the office has not yet updated the HOA's website. September 10th was three weeks ago. That's plenty of time in which to find the two minutes necessary to update the website. (Isn't it?)

The closing date for applications for board positions is this Friday, October 4, 2024, 5:30PM. The Summit Scoop should have informed interested parties where to find the application on the website. It is Appendix A in the Procedures Reference Manual (PRM), Art. IV, Section A (Page 33). To find the PRM, hover over RESIDENTS, click on DOCUMENTS, click on Online Guides; then click on SCA Procedures Reference Manual..

The Table of Contents for the PRM refers to the "Nominations" Committee, found in Art. II, Section B(2) on Page 8. There it is called the Nominating Committee. What does it do?

"Provides quality candidates to hold office on the Board. Candidates will be of the highest caliber, selected for interpersonal skills, dedication to the betterment of our Association and community, and free of any personal agenda."

Further down in the PRM in Art. III Administration, Section H, the procedures for the Nominating Committee are published on Pages 22-24.

Paragraph 2 was ignored by the President this year. It reads, "As Director vacancies occur or foreseen to occur, the Committee Chair is notified by the BOD President." A vacancy occurred in May, when Tommy Williams resigned, and President Danny Trapp has failed to announce it or fill the vacancy! The Committee had no Chair until September 10.

There is a lot of good information and detail on Pages 22-24.

The Nominating Committee decides who will be on the ballot.

The Voting Members decide who gets election.

Remember: You, the Members of the HOA, do NOT decide who gets elected. This is why legitimate, duly-elected (by the homeowners) Voting Members are so important!
