Residents Not Welcome
For almost 20 years "residents" were welcome at Board Meetings.
As far back as January 2016 the Summit Scoop carried this message:
"Board meetings are open to ALL [sic] Summit residents."
Even in January 2026 the Scoop carried this message:
"Board meetings are open to all Summit Residents."
Then, without notice, fanfare, or Board vote, the February 2026 Summit Scoop was changed to read,
"Board meetings are open to all Summit homeowners."
And in an email from the Board, sent out by the office on February 27, the meeting rules led off with "Only homeowners of record are permitted to attend the meeting."
Why would the Board want to prevent "residents" (non-homeowners) from monthly meetings? Or do they really just want to keep me out?
Non-homeowners ("residents") are an important part of The Summit. A reasonable person would think that the Board would want residents to feel welcome and included. (This is not a DEI statement.) Is the Board unnecessarily creating an "us vs. them" division in The Summit?
Who has caused the disruptions and chaos during board meetings?
Last September the HOA lost its use of Brookland Baptist Church Northeast as its meeting place, because of chaos during summer meetings. At least one member of the church's choir was so worried about the noise from the HOA meeting that she informed the church office that she was "afraid".
Was the disorder caused by HOA homeowners or residents? I hadn't been in the church since February 4, 2025, so I can't answer that question. But I can guess at the answer! It wasn't caused by "residents".
