How to Become a Voting Member
This article is about how to become a Voting Member in The Summit Community Association, Inc., a non-profit corporation in northeast Columbia, South Carolina, hereafter referred to as the "HOA". This is the one and only way to become a legitimate Voting Member.
Despite rumors to the contrary, it's not that hard.
There are 28 Neighborhoods in the HOA. Homeowners do not elect directors to the Board of Directors of the HOA. Directors are elected by Voting Members.
Each Neighborhood is to hold an Annual Neighborhood Meeting. To convene a Neighborhood Meeting, a quorum of homeowners in that neighborhood must be present, in-person or by proxy. A quorum is one-third of the property owners. Ex., Barony Place (I & II) has 78 properties. Its quorum is 26 (1/3 x 78).
At the Neighborhood Meeting the homeowners elect a three-person [local] Neighborhood Committee. Then the Neighborhood Committee elects one of three as the committee chairman and Voting Member.
The Neighborhood Committee (and Voting Member) serves for one year.
The Voting Member (VM) represents the homeowners. The VMs meet annually (November) and elect three or four directors, depending on the election cycle.
VMs have other important duties and responsibilities. Read about those on the HOA's website. On the homepage, scroll down to and click on "Neighborhood News". Scroll down to and click on "Voting Members/Alternates Memo concerning Voting Member/Alternate Right [sic] & Responsibilities"
