What Qualities Should Board Members Have?

What are the qualities you should expect from your Board of Directors?

When the Nominating Committee examines the applications of candidates for the Board before elections are held each November, this is what they are supposed to look for.

According to Art. II, §B, ¶2 (Page 8) of the Procedures Reference Manual,

The Nominating Committee "Provides quality candidates to hold office on the Board. Candidates will be of the highest caliber, selected for interpersonal skills, dedication to the betterment of the Association and community, and free of any personal agenda."

How did the Nominating Committee do before the election in November 7, 2023, when Danny Trapp and Linda Potter were elected and Brenda Bryant and Greg Thomas were re-elected? (Greg Thomas resigned shortly after being elected.)

How did the Nominating Committee do before the election in November 12, 2024, when LaToya Adams and Ciara Bates were elected and Tanisha Holmes was re-elected?

All the directors are elected "at-large"; i.e., no one represents any one "district" of the HOA (there are no "districts"). Each is equal in voting authority and should independently represent the Members. Friendships and allegiances should be left at the door.

Do they act that way? Or have they divided into "us vs. them"? Is there a "Team Danny" of four directors? What about the others?

How was the interest of the minority respected and preserved on April 1st? Did the Board vote on a Motion that had been made and seconded? Will the Minutes reflect that Motion and that there was no vote?

How would you rate the current members of the Board of Directors, using the April 1, 2025 meeting as a baseline?

Candidates are supposed to be

  • of the highest caliber,
  • selected for interpersonal skills,
  • dedication to the betterment of the Association and community, and
  • free of any personal agenda.
How would you rate these directors (1-10)?

Danny Trapp?

Tanisha Holmes?

Ciara Bates?

LaToya Adams?

Brenda Bryant?

Patricia Pollin?

Linda Potter?
