Street Lights - HOW MUCH???
You won't want to miss reading the last paragraph in the Finance Committee section of the Minutes of the August 5, 2025 Board Meeting. (Why was it even in that section of the board meeting?)
Just in case you don't read the Minutes (how many of you do?), here it is.
"Tanisha Holmes and Danny Trapp met with representatives from Dominion Energy to discuss turning over the streetlights on Summit Parkway and Summit Ridge. Dominion provided options for taking over the lights that start at $21,500 per month plus the cost of electricity for the lights."
$21,500/month... How much is that annually? $258,000! That's $104 per home per year! Plus electricity! Why not just turn off the lights on Summit Parkway and Summit Ridge Drive? Cars have headlights these days, don't they?
$258,000 is 18% of the HOA's 2025 Annual Budget ($1,423,100).
Seriously? How much is the Budget for street lights?
The 2025 Budget shows (Line 5011) $8,000 for Parkway Lights. The 2025 Budget also has "Electricity/Lighting Repair" (Line 5010) for $11,000; is any of that for Parkway lights? Both Lines are obviously far insufficient! Were those Lines drastically trimmed, when the Board failed to consider the dues increase that was sought by the Finance Committee in October 2024?
The 2025 Budget shows (Line 7000) $93,000 for Electricity. Is that for the whole HOA, including the office, pools, parks, security cameras, etc. Dominion's quote is "plus electricity".
Why didn't Tanisha and Danny just tell Dominion to email its estimate? After they looked at it, then they could have met with Dominion, if they were interested. Why did they think "face-time" with Dominion was important?
Remember when George Reynolds (long-time Treasurer until April 2021) sold the Board on LED lights for the Parkway and how great the savings on electricity would be? And how no one from the HOA monitored the globes being replaced and the Parkway ended up with a mish-mash of globes of different styles and even different bulbs? So much for uniformity and consistency; right?
