August 2025 Minutes - What says the Neighborhood Committee?
At the August 5, 2025 Board Meeting, the (HOA's) Neighborhood Committee section includes this long statement.
"Reginald (Hill) talked about the interaction between the board and participants to include the voting members, and that it's important to understand that if participants/voting members have somewhat of a negative attitude when asking questions, board members are only human, and that the attitude of the board members when responding may be the same. He also stated that everyone should take time to review the CC&Rs to gain an understanding of certain things such as whether participants are only allowed to speak or ask questions when recognized or allowed by the board." (Source: Minutes of the 8/5/2025 Board Meeting)
This statement to the Board by the chairperson of the HOA's Neighborhood Committee doesn't make any sense at all. The wrong person made the wrong statement. Hill and his Committee have absolutely nothing to do with the interactions between the board and "participants", whether those "participants" include homeowners or Voting Members.
Why ever would Mack raise the question of a Voting Member's "negative attitude when asking questions"? It's none of his business.
The Mission of the Neighborhood Committee is
"Mission: Responsible for helping each community in the Summit to locate and elect a local neighborhood committee that will represent their community at SCA board meetings and thereby allow their Voting member to vote on vital issues that affect the Summit and their local neighborhood. The Neighborhood Committee will assist and advise local neighborhoods with problems that they encounter."
Hill had emailed me recently that his "committee represents the homeowners within The Summit." That is false. It does not!
In the same email, he wrote that the Voting Members (whom I had emailed) are "members of The Summit Neighborhood Committee." That too is false.
Hill has always been the only listed member of the HOA's Neighborhood Committee. At one prior Board Meeting (February 2025 or before), I heard him say that there were "a couple" of other members of his committee, but he never named them. Any homeowner (Voting Member or not) could be on the HOA's Neighborhood Committee, but they won't be unless they ask and are accepted.
I guess it's possible that he doesn't distinguish between the (HOA's) Neighborhood Committee and the 28 (local) Neighborhood Committees that his Committee is supposed to help.
If Board Meetings were properly run by the Board President, nobody would speak without first being recognized by the Board President. This would include other board members, committee chairs, committee members, Voting Members, and members of the audience.
