Stay silent or speak up?
Should you speak up?
Who was Martin Niemöller? Niemöller (1892-1984) was a Lutheran pastor who lived during (and after) Nazi Germany. Take a few minutes and read about him through the link below.
Among his writings was:
"First they came for the socialists, and I did not speak out—because I was not a socialist.
"Then they came for the trade unionists, and I did not speak out—because I was not a trade unionist.
"Then they came for the Jews, and I did not speak out—because I was not a Jew.
"Then they came for me—and there was no one left to speak for me."
I don't recall just when I first heard these words, but it was many years ago. His words have stayed with me through the years.
