HOA Activities Committee - TeeTotalers only
What does the Activities Committee do? How does it operate?
From the website:
Activities/Social/Decorating
Mission: Organizes holiday decorations for the Summit Communities to include neighborhoods, commercial, Hardscrabble Road and Clemson Road entrances. This committee shall also be responsible for coordinating activities for the entire Summit Community to include funding for neighborhood annual activities. These activities must provide something for entire neighborhood participation. This committee will not fund any activity/event that will include the serving of alcoholic beverage.
Danny Trapp, Chairperson, Sandra McGee-Dodd, and Patricia Pollin.
Who else is on the Committee? Why aren't other members listed? From news on the new Facebook group about the HOA, at least one Voting Member and three others tried to attend the Activities Committee meeting on June 10th at the HOA office. They arrived for the 6:30PM meeting, and the office was dark.
Danny and Patricia didn't show up. No notice was on the door. No contact advised cancellation of the meeting. No apology was made afterwards. It seems Danny and Patricia had "emergencies". Really?
Danny seems to "own" the Activities Committee; he has been the chairman of it for many years. This Committee has by far the largest budget of any committee - $10,500 for 2025.
And, separately, each Neighborhood gets $250. That's $7,000 in the HOA's budget (28 x $250 - $7,000). Does the Activities Committee control that, as "neighborhood annual activities"?
What is the actual line-by-line budget for that committee? And how do the actual expenses compare with the budget? Have the Committee's finances ever been audited? Is any money ever left over at the end of the year?
Two other committees are funded in the budget: Safety ($1,000) and Youth ($1,500).
Are the Mother-Daughter Luncheon and the Father-Son Bowling events of the Activities Committee? Are they funded? If so, since they allow only very limited attendance (40 and 20, respectively), how do they "provide something for entire neighborhood participation"?
Why is alcohol prohibited?
If a father wanted a beer while bowling or a mom wanted a glass of wine with lunch (at their own expense), would that be frowned upon?
