S.C. laws for HOAs - very, very weak
They are almost no laws that protect you, the homeowner.
Read about the HOA Reform Leaders National Group (HRLNG). It has an excellent Facebook group page and an excellent website.
You don't have to read it all at one sitting, and there will not be a test on Friday.
The South Carolina Department of Consumer Affairs is virtually toothless, when it comes to resolving complaints about The Summit's HOA. It will accept your complaint and include it in its annual report to the legislature.
In most cases you'll be told to get your own attorney and file in Circuit Court.
Take a look at the HRLNG Proposed Legislation. Click right here. Scroll down just a little. I particularly like #2 and #16.
And go to Facebook. Search for HRLNG.
Join HRLNG. (No fees) Write some letters. Send some emails. Make some phone calls. Protect your investment.
