Safety Committee to meet on Sept. 12
The office has announced a meeting of the HOA's Safety Committee:
"The next Safety Committee meeting is scheduled for Thursday, September 12th at 6:30pm and will be held at the Summit office. Homeowners are welcome to attend to learn more about joining the committee.
"It's a great opportunity for homeowners who are interested in contributing to the community's safety initiatives to get involved."
At the August Board Meeting the new chairman of the Safety Committee was introduced. He is William Hill. No mention was made about the number of homeowners who requested consideration for this appointment or how the previously-announced selection process was conducted.
President Danny Trapp announced the appointment, which is within the prerogative of the office of President. Somewhere in the By-Laws it probably states whether approval of the Board is required. If so, there was no public vote on that appointment.
Other members of the Safety Committee are Clynton Barzey, Denise Heimlich, Karen Kranz, Kristie O'Brian, and Cynthia Berry.
The Mission of the Safety Committee is responsibility "for identifying unsafe conditions that exist in the amenity areas and reporting these findings to the Association Board of Directors along with recommendations for rectifying the problems." (Source: HOA website.)
Note that the responsibility is for the amenity areas. Past committees have addressed issues beyond this charter, such as the safety of homeowners and residents. Will the Committee now limit itself to the stated Mission?
Members of he Safety Committee (and Board Members) are reminded of the new "No Firearms" policy at the office. The policy is probably not legally binding, because the decision was made at the private, secret, closed, pre-board meeting on May 28, 2024, and has never been announced to Association Members. The sign on the gate is probably meaningless.
But there is a Section in the PRM (Art. II, Section D (1)) that applies to Board members, committee members, vendors, and CAMS employees. You give up your right to exercise your Second Amendment rights while you are conducting Association business when you are legally armed.
