OK, let's look at the eight candidates, one by one.
Fifth, Stephen Van Camp
I don't know Stephen Van Camp.
I had never heard his name until I was told that he is a candidate for the board.
From public records, he has lived in the Pine Brook neighborhood for 29 years. I wrote to him (USPS) but haven't heard from him.
According to his LinkedIn profile, he is General Counsel at the South Carolina Public Employees' Benefit Authority (PEBA).
According to Experience.com he is an administrative law lawyer. His profile there reads:
"Stephen Raymond Van Camp is an accomplished Administrative Law lawyer serving the Columbia, South Carolina, area. Working with the S.C. Public Employee Benefit Authority, Stephen brings a wealth of knowledge and experience to his practice. He expertly handles administrative law matters and civil trials, providing comprehensive legal support to his clients. Stephen is dedicated to upholding justice and achieving the best possible outcomes for those he serves."
I read recently that he retired from the S.C. PEBA in 2022.
A lawyer with administrative law experience and many years of employment at the PEBA is a great choice for Director of the HOA.
I do not believe that any lawyer, retired or not, would risk his reputation to put up what has been happening in the HOA for the past seven-or-more years. I believe Stephen Van Camp would insist that the Board comply with the CC&Rs, By-Laws, and published guidelines of the HOA.
Should the Voting Members elect Stephen Van Camp as a director? Yes.
