What Did Danny Trapp Stir Up?
On September 19, 2025 Brookland Baptist Church Northeast sent a letter to Danny Trapp and the Richland County Sheriff's Department.
The letter was sent in response to a letter that the Church received from Danny Trapp on September 15, 2025. The letter from the Church is addressed to Danny as the President of the Summit Homeowners Association.
What in the world did Danny write in his letter to the Church that resulted in the Church's response?
I immediately wrote to the Church and requested a copy of Danny's letter and the Church's appeal process. So far the Church has not provided either.
What's interesting about the four men banned from church property is that they all have been critical of many of Danny's actions as Board President. Three are homeowners, and two of them are Voting Members. A third is almost a Voting Member; he is collecting the final signatures to meet the HOA's requirement to become recognized as a Voting Member. The fourth is, in the words of the HOA's lawyer, a "mere resident".
There is an important HOA election coming up, and it is a certainty that these three Voting Members will not vote to re-elect Danny.
The Annual Meeting of Voting Members (AMVM) and the annual Board Meeting were scheduled to be held at the Church on November 11. That is no longer the case.
These two meetings will now be held at the North Springs Park Community Center, 1320 Clemson Road, on November 18. And it's not because November 11th is Veterans Day.
There was a complaint to the church office by some women in the choir, who felt unsafe because of the HOA's meetings. The HOA may no longer be welcome at the church. Due to poor coordination between the HOA and the Church, the choir rehearsal and the HOA meeting overlapped.
The Church's September 19th letter was sent to Danny, not to the four men. Danny did not forward the Church's letter until Friday, October 3, when mailed it with his own HOA cover letter that identifies the HOA. He was clearly acting as Board President, when he did this. The letters were delivered to three of the men on Monday, October 6, just one day before the October 7th Board Meeting. That was just a coincidence; right?
As it turns out, Danny's letter and the Church's response were all for naught, because the HOA will not meet at the Church in November. I'll be curious to learn whether the HOA ever meets at the Church again.
I was hoping that this matter would be resolved easily, quickly, and quietly, without any embarrassment to the nice people at the Church. As of an email to me today from the main church campus in West Columbia, that no longer seems to be the case. They have turned the matter over to "local authorities", whatever that means.
If you attend Brookland Baptist Church Northeast, ask how they like the HOA and what is behind its September 19th letter.
