Huge Fire in The Summit

There was a huge fire this afternoon on Long Ridge Drive, just west of Timber Crest Drive.

I was driving to Publix and my passenger noticed smoke and flames. I circled back to get the address, while I was calling 911.

The house had signs on the front that it was set for demolition, and it appeared empty. No one answered the door on the house to the east, and the people in the house to the west were already out in front.

After parking up the street, I went to the corner to try to keep the intersection clear for the fire trucks, which had not arrived yet.

There were a lot of looky-loos, many of whom were reluctant to pull forward and get out of the way. There was one particularly nasty young woman driving a car with Georgia license plates. She was demonstrating her "privilege" to be a slow-moving spectator.

If you have any information about vagrants or trespassers who may have living in or hanging out at that house, be sure to inform the Columbia Fire Department. Earlier today people were observed going into and coming out of the back door.
