An Act of Cowardice
Tonight was the scheduled September meeting of the HOA's Board of Directors. The meeting is published in The Summit Scoop and on the Calendar on the HOA's website.
When I arrived at 6:15PM, the parking lot at Brookland Baptist Church Northeast had an "empty" look to it, and I wondered whether the Board had canceled the meeting without notice.
But the door was unlocked, and a church employee had just finished cleaning the windows in the doors. The meeting room was set up and the lights were on.
But where was the Board of Directors? MIA. Not just MIA; they had fled. Well, they hadn't actually "fled". They never showed up. About a dozen homeowners did show up.
One man said that the meeting was going to be on Zoom, and he was in the Zoom Waiting Room. That man had gotten an email with the Zoom link. The others were out of luck, and they were not happy.
The church employee did not know that the meeting was canceled. She had set up the room at 5:00PM for the HOA meeting. Front tables, chairs for directors and staff, and LOTS of chairs for the audience. I should have counted them. At least 50.
Can you believe that the Board did not even have the courtesy to inform the church that the meeting would not be held?
Who was behind changing the meeting to Zoom? Did Justin do that? Did he ask the board? Did they vote to go dark with Zoom?
One man was really mad. As in MAD! He had interrupted what he was doing across town to drive to this meeting. And he had the right to attend, even with the restrictions decided upon by the board.
What should happen? The Voting Members should call a meeting and vote which directors to remove. Any board member who supported Justin to change the meeting to Zoom needs to go.
I suspect that Vernell, Greg, and Mary Ann supported Justin. That would make a majority of seven. But did Brenda, Tanisha, and Dennis also agree?
The board did not have the courage to face homeowners who disagreed with the August 22, 2023, Resolution to shut out homeowners.
How does this problem get fixed? Remove Justin, Vernell, Mary Ann, and Greg from the board. The Voting Members can do that.
The only problem is there are not any legitimate Voting Members. There are also no legitimate Board members.
It's time for every Neighborhood to call a Neighborhood Meeting. Conduct a Neighborhood Election of three homeowners to the Neighborhood Committee. Select one from the Committee to be the Voting Member.
Get 15 Voting Members in the same room and vote out Justin, Vernell, Mary Ann, and Greg. Send them packing. Vote in four new homeowners as Directors. Elect officers. This could happen within 30 days.
